Kara Troester Blythe, originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, trained under Lisa Webb at the Academy of Ballet and Theatre Arts for thirteen years. At age 17, she joined Kansas City Ballet’s second company for two seasons. She then joined Oklahoma City Ballet as a member of the studio company in 2017, was named apprentice in 2018, and was promoted to corps de ballet in 2019.
Her repertoire includes works by George Balanchine, Ryan Jolicoeur-Nye, Robert Mills, August Bournonville, Val Caniparoli, Devon Carney, Anthony Krutzkamp, Septime Webre, Jessica Lang, André Prokovsky, Bruce Wells, and others.
Some of her favorite roles include a Vampire Bride in Michael Pink’s Dracula, Adagio Principal in George Balanchine’s Western Symphony, and Phlegmatic in George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments. She has also performed feature roles that include the Sugar Plum Fairy in Ryan Jolicoeur-Nye’s The Nutcracker, Odette in the second act pas de deux from Robert Mills’ Swan Lake, and a featured couple in Sarah Tallman’s Love in a Jukebox. She is incredibly grateful to dance and perform in her hometown.
