A native of Oklahoma, Macaira began her dance training with Yvonne Chouteau, one of the five internationally recognized Oklahoma Native American ballerinas. She grew up in Oklahoma City Ballet’s school and earned her BFA in Ballet Performance from the University of Utah, where she danced with Utah Ballet and the Character Dance Ensemble. Macaira danced professionally for several years with Oklahoma City Ballet under the direction of Bryan Pitts, performing various soloist and corps de ballet roles.
Macaira has been on the faculty of several dance schools including Oklahoma City Ballet, Alaska Ballet Theatre, Balletstudio Danzaira (The Netherlands), and as an adjunct professor at the University of Central Oklahoma. During her time with Oklahoma City Ballet, she has served as Guest Ballet Master, Children’s Rehearsal Director, and Company Rehearsal Assistant.
In addition to serving as School Operations Manager, Macaira teaches technique, pointe, character, and the Intro to Ballet Seminar for the OKCB Yvonne Chouteau School and is one of the instructors for OKCB’s Golden Swans community engagement classes. Macaira is an American Ballet Theatre® Certified Teacher in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum and has successfully presented students for examinations. She also holds certifications in Revolutionary Principals of Movement and Progressing Ballet Technique®.
Outside of the dance world, Macaira has over 25 years of experience working in several business disciplines including accounting, banking, contract administration, law, education, and human resources.
