KAITLIN ALTER

Kaitlin Alter was born and raised in Urbandale, Iowa where she trained in the Pre-Professional Program at Capital City Dance Center under the direction of Melissa and Emery Uyehara. While training, Mrs. Alter attended several nationally recognized summer programs including: Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet and the Kirov Academy.

Mrs. Alter began her professional performance career with the Montgomery Ballet in Montgomery, Alabama. While dancing with Montgomery Ballet, she had the pleasure of performing a variety of both classical and contemporary répertoire.  Some of her favorite roles she performed include: Nymph in The Sleeping Beauty, Gypsy in Don Quixote, as well as both Clara and The Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker. During this time, she performed as a guest artist at the Dance Canvas Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.

Additionally, Mrs. Alter performed professionally with the Ballet Theatre of Maryland in Annapolis, Maryland. While there, she enjoyed performing full length classical ballets, as well as new contemporary works. Some of her highlights include performing in Dianna Cuatto’s original Excalibur, as well as being featured in Dianna Cuatto’s jazz-inspired version of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.

During her performance career, Mrs. Alter had the pleasure of performing as a guest artist for several dance projects in the DMV area, as well as with VidaDance Company in Kansas City, Missouri for their debut production of Cracked! A Reimagined Kansas City Nutcracker.

Mrs. Alter is an ABT® Certified Teacher who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She joined the OKCB Yvonne Chouteau School in 2021. In the fall of 2022, Mrs. Alter assumed the role of Evening Program Principal, where she now overseas the Children's, Preparatory, and Pre-Professional Divisions of the Evening Program.

In the studio, she finds her greatest joy in witnessing her students strive for excellence in both technical proficiency and artistic expression, and building lasting relationships with the students and families of the Yvonne Chouteau School. Outside of the studio, Mrs. Alter cherishes life in OKC with her husband, Bruce, their young daughter, and their golden retriever.
