The Dance Center of Oklahoma City Ballet Pre-Professional Summer Intensive 2013

June 10th-July 19th

The Dance Center of Oklahoma City Ballet's Pre-Professional Summer Intensive is open to students aged 13-22 years old. Three 2 weeks sessions will be offered. Students may choose to attend 2, 4 or 6 weeks of the intensive. Applicants must be at least 13 years old and no older than 22 years of age as of January 1st, 2013. Women should have been on pointe for at least two years. Apprentices for Oklahoma City Ballet's 2013-2014 Season may be selected from the summer program.

The summer intensive includes classes in ballet, pointe, men's technique, variations, partnering, composition, jazz, modern, pilates, yoga, stretch, dance history, and music for dancers taught by renowned guest artists and Dance Center of OKC Ballet faculty. The 2013 Master Teachers will be Amanda McKerrow (principal, American Ballet Theater), Roger Van Fleteren (soloist, American Ballet Theater and current Associate Director of Alabama Ballet), Amy Rose (soloist, American Ballet Theater), Robert Mills (Artistic Director OKC Ballet), and Jane Vorburger (School Director OKC Ballet).

Students will be immersed in the highest standards of teaching and each week will culminate in a studio showcase performance. Weekends include supervised activities and trips to Oklahoma City museums and Riversport Oklahoma City

Audition Requirements

All students wishing to study at the Summer Pre-Professional Intensive should attend one of our national audition tour classes. Applicants must pay $20.00 in cash, check, or money order payable to The Dance Center of Oklahoma City Ballet, and submit one 4x6 informal headshot and one 4 x6 full length photo of center 1st arabesque at the audition. Women must wear full length pink tights, leotard, ballet slippers for barre and pointe shoes for center. Men must wear white t-shirts, black tights and ballet slippers. Letters indicating whether or not the student has been accepted will be emailed out within 1 to 2 weeks of each audition. Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance is by EMAIL. Please be sure to CLEARLY PRINT YOUR EMAIL ON YOUR REGISTRATION SHEET.

Video Audition

Students unable to attend an audition in person may send a video no longer than 10 minutes showing center adage, center pirouettes, petit allegro with beats and grand allegro. In addition to the registration form, audition fee of $20 (money order/credit card payment/check only for video auditions) and the 2 photographs, video applicants must submit a letter of recommendation and resume. Please mail the audition packet and video to The Dance Center of OKC Ballet, 7421 North Classen Boulevard, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. Items must be received by March 24th, 2013. Videos will not be returned.

Fee Schedule

  • Tuition - $300 per week
  • Housing - $260 per week. NOTE: This price is guaranteed if paid in full by May 3rd. Housing will cost $280 per week if paid after May 3rd plus a $150 late fee.
  • Activities fee- $50 per week.
  • A $200 non-refundable tuition deposit due April 26th is required to reserve your spot within the program. This deposit is applied towards the tuition costs. A $200 non-refundable housing deposit, applied towards housing cost is due April 26th.

Supervised housing and meals are provided at the fabulous Isola Bella. Students are overseen by chaperones at all times outside of classes. Transportation is provided to and from the dance studios and to all activities.

Activities will include trips to the Oklahoma City Zoo, The Oklahoma City Art Museum, summer performances, Myriad Gardens, The Science Museum Oklahoma, as well as outdoor events at Riversport.

Financial Aid

The Dance Center of Oklahoma City Ballet offers a limited number of tuition scholarships to our summer intensive students. Students who are awarded financial aid will be notified by email by April 19th, 2013. Please make sure you clearly print your EMAIL address on your application. Scholarships will be preferentially offered to students attending the entire 6 weeks of the program. You must print out the scholarship application form and mail it to us by the deadline with all supporting materials.

Deadline: Financial Aid application must be received by April 12th, 2013.


  • March 24th- Video submissions due.
  • April 12th, 2013- Financial Aid application due.
  • April 26th- Letters of Intention to attend and $200 tuition deposit due. $200 housing deposit due. Deposits count towards tuition and housing totals.
  • May 3rd- Housing balance due in full.
  • June 7th - Tuition balance due in full. Activities fee due in full ($50 per each week attending).
